Flash Interviews DKB-ISTAF 2009

Natallia MIKHNEVICH (BLR)
Shot Put Women

Unfortunatly it wasn´t enough to win today, although or maybe because of my very intensiv preparation. I have to say that I am a little tired but I have to keep on working on my technique.
The Olympic Stadium is wonderful, different, what means better than the old stadium in the eastern part.
About my plans in the future I can only say work, practice and again work.

HARTING, Robert (GER)
Discus Men

I am stuck in a little crisis right now. I have a injury in my lower back. This goes well for one week then it becomes worser again. For that situation I threw pretty good today. But as decandent as the german is, he always wants more - that´s why I would really have liked to throw further today. The result with that injury is top. But honestly without this great audience I couldn´t have done it. I didn´t get one of the throws really good. At the World Championship I know that I do not have a chance to win gold. Just look at this competition. The guys are in great shape. 67,50 meter you have to throw to be under the bests.

14.06.2009 14:19

Gerd KANTER (EST)
Discus Men

My main goal was to win the competition - I succeed, so I am suppose to be satisfied. But still, I felt a bit tired today. I trained really hard the last weeks, maybe even too hard and now I am paying the bill. I was planing to throw a bit further. Anyway, I won against these strong guys, this makes me feel comfortable and give me good emotions. My trainings schedules is based on the world championships to be the target. The Berlin people know me already, it's my second time in Berlin. I am sure they are going to support me, as they are know to be very fair.

14.06.2009 14:24

Andreas LANGE (GER)
800 m U20 DKB-Junior-CUP

I am very very happy because I´ve never had the chance to compete in front of such a huge audiance. And than the victory on top of it all - awesome that I was given such a great opportunity! Two weeks from know the German Junior Championships start and that will be the next really important goal I practiced such a long time for. For now I feel pretty exhausted and tomorrow I will go back home.

14.06.2009 14:42

Robin SCHEMBERA (GER)
800m Men

The first place is great, but to be honest right now the anger tops all because I didn´t get the norm. What a damn shit. I am so much better right now than the time actually shows. Sure on the last meters I gave everything I could, but still it wasn´t enough. It can´t be that hard to run the norm. I know I can do that. Slowly I get really sick of it.

14.06.2009 14:50

Chris BROWN (BAH)
400m Men A race

I am dissappopinted about my time, but happy about the win. I do not know why, but my legs felt very tired, but I still have time till August. I just need to stay healthy. The track feels good, am sure you can run pretty fast here. That's what I need to do at the world. My aim is to make the podium. What I have to run for that? Not sure, I just know it has to be much faster than today.

14.06.2009 15:14

Augustine Kiprono CHOGE (KEN)
1500m Men

I know I can run that fast, that time was no surprise to me, but of course, it makes me feel very proud. Its been my 4th time here, I want to win a 5th time in August. All I have to do right now is keeping this strong form. I sounds so easy, but it will be a hard job.

14.06.2009 15:24

Stefan EBERHARDT (GER)
1500m Men

I was faster than my personal best, I ran 3,33,92 today. Everything went very good right from the start. The great atmosphere in the Olympic Stadium helped me a lot. My big goal is the World Championship and that´s what I am working on now.

14.06.2009 15:27

Bastian SWILLIMS (GER)
400m Men B race

That was my season´s debut today and I am pretty disappointed. I was injured in winter and suffered a rupture in a ligament in my left foot. Because I was in bad pain, I couldn´t move normally and this resulted in an injury in my right knee. From the beginning of February until the end of March I couldn´t even think about running so I only practiced cycling and aqua jogging.

14.06.2009 15:28

Carsten SCHLANGEN (GER)
1500m Men

This really was a great race. 200 meters before the finish, when I passed with 3:04 min, I knew I would run a new personal best. I wanted to hold the gap between the Kenians, the group in front of me, as small as possible and new that I had to push really hard. During practice it already went really well and I only needed a good competition to show a good time. Now I just have to try to run more closely to Stefan Eberhardts time.

14.06.2009 15:32

Damu CHERRY (USA)
100m Hurdles Women

I am so blessed, it was all God's will that I won today. I was so jetlaged. I am coming directly from Canada and felt so tired before the start. My start fels so slow. But the time coming out at the end makes me feel very happy. I am constant on 12,70. I know I have to be even faster for my Trials. We have so many talented young girls in the US, but I want to make the team so badly.

14.06.2009 15:39

Carolin NYTRA (GER)
100m Hurdles Women

For the first time this felt like a very good run. It felt like it goes up but the time dissapoints me. I wanted to run faster. I still miss the explosivity and at the second an third hurdle I thought my feet would fall asleep, because I closed me shoes too tight. Usually I run faster with that. Anyway I still got two month to qualify myself.

14.06.2009 15:41

Silke SPIEGELBURG (GER)
Pole Vault Women

I don´t know what happened to me today. There were so many tiny details that didn´t feel right. I have to forget about the competition now very quick and not go crazy about that. And there are some wise word to say about that: Bad test, good competition...and that´s what I hope for the World Championship.

14.06.2009 15:43

Stefan SCHWAB (GER)
100m Men A race

It was pretty cool to compete against the fast guys. I could bring some colour into the race. Even if I failed to run the qualification time for the World Championships for the second time today, it was a great experience to run here. I will run the norm again and that´s the reason why I am not disappointed today. In my opinion it went well.

14.06.2009 16:02

Daniel BAILEY (ANT)
100m Men A race

I came here to win this race. That's what I've done, so I cannot be dissappointed. I came here sick, just recovering from a flu, that's why the time is alright, even pretty close to my pb. The track feels fast, I am sure I can faster at the world championships.

14.06.2009 16:04

Sanya RICHARDS (USA)
400m Women

I came here to run fast. I did not even went shopping before the race, although I love to go shopping in Berlin, but I had to save all my energy for this race. And it went pretty well. The Berlin people love me, and I really love them. They always cheer pretty loud, that give the athlete's alot of energy. I am really looking forward coming back in August and leave Germany with Gold.

14.06.2009 16:07

Verena SAILER (GER)
100m Women A race

I had a really good start and than unfortunatly a little stumble which I couldn´t make up again.
I really have to concentrate on my qualification time now.
But the atmosphere in the Olynpic Stadium was wonderful and carries you.

14.06.2009 16:08

Kerron STEWART (JAM)
100m Women A race

11,00 Sec - that's feels so good. I didn't expect to run that fast today. I even stumbled out of the block, so there is really nothing I can complain about today. My next race is at the jamaincan trials, this is going to be a great challenge. The jamaican girls are all strong. I need to give 110 % to make the team.

14.06.2009 16:19

Sebastian BAYER (GER)
Long Jump Men

Today it didn´t went that well. 7,95 meter are not what I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to get closer to the norm. But I decided with my coach on a hard training week because of some illnesses practice became to short in mai. I had a an inflamation in my throath and ear. Overall practice went well but for this competition it was probably too much. The goal is Berlin, pregoal Ulm, I am pretty sure that I will find form til then. The competition still was fun, the audience is great. And I like to jump with other good athletes, I don´t want to hide. Wednesday I start in Ostrava.

14.06.2009 16:45

Dexter FAULK (USA)
110m Hurdles Men

The running felt very easy today. I am so glad I ran a PB here, did not expect that. Actually I was pretty nervous before the race, but as soon as I was in the race, it was great fun. My Trials are coming up in two weeks, this is going to be though. The US-Boys are all strong. But I hope to be back in August and than I want to win again.

14.06.2009 16:48

Ariane FRIEDRICH (GER)
High Jump Women

Today I would actualy sign the sentence: This was a perfect day. Everything was just perfect. 2,06 meter - that was a dream which came true today. And over all the Berlin audience - super. At the World Championship surely I want to be in the lead, but I am not a machine, just a human being. But I will give everything I have. My attitude to win the gold medail is already the one you need to win.

14.06.2009 17:15

Andreas THORKILDSEN (NOR)
Javelin Men

I became second today. I am always going for the victory, so I cannot be really happy. Plus, I also wanted to throw further. What went wrong? I do not really know. It was a bunch of small problem, which end up in a big technical one. The competition was really long, we were so many athletes. My muscles felt pretty weak at the end. At the worlds, I hope to do much better. But it is weird, I never throwed very well in Berlin. But at the world championships we are competing at the other side of the stadium. I hope it makes a difference for me. I am definitly going for gold.

14.06.2009 17:17

Mark FRANK (GER)
Javelin Men

This was a perfect competition today, with little deficits. I didn´t throw far enough even if the WC norm is not that hard to achieve. At the moment I feel strong enough to throw 85 metres. And that´s what I want to show. There are still lots of small technical things which are not perfectly matched. My last two steps are not set in the right way and that is the reason I bend my shoulder. Javelin throw is complicated. But I am happy to be back in business. The last two years have been a catostrophy. But by now all my injuries are cured. Moreover I am a fighter. I always knew that I am not at the peak of my performance until now. I can do a lot that year and I feel that I can even go further. And I am totally mad about the WC in Berlin.

14.06.2009 17:21

4x100 Meter Relay
4x100m Relay Men

Alexander Kosenkow: To run here was a lot of fun again, even when the time wasn´t what we wanted to accomplish. We knew it would become very tough against the British sprinters what they proved. We knew if we are not in front of the British at the last change it would be hard. And it came like that.
We are glad that since last week the pressure of the norm for the World Championship is gone. Last week we still had a hard relay practice in Berlin. That was still working hard in us and the competition in Regensburg wasn´t long ago too.
That shall not be any reason for not winning. We ran pretty good but we know that we still have to improve. Next weekend is another important meeting, the Team-EM. Today the result was okay and from here we can surely improve.

14.06.2009 17:24

Elena ISINBAEVA (RUS)
Pole Vault Women

I am so happy and glad that I won again in Berlin. It was very important for me to win right at the start. At the same time it was a big responsibility to my new sponsor.
I feel fit and wonderful, it was a great start and I want to accomplish new records soon, for example during the World Championship in a few weeks in Berlin.
I would like to thank the audience in Berlin which not only cheers their athletes from germany but everybody, me included. It is always great to be here.
A big thanks to the organisation team.

14.06.2009 17:24

Kenenisa BEKELE (ETH)
5000m Men

I had to work really hard for the victory, the other athletes were really strong and tried really hard to beat me. Therefore I am happy to end up being the winner. I am just coming back after a long period of injury, it feels good to be back on track. I just had a short time to prepare for this season, just started three month ago. But I still have time to get into better shape till August. I am hoping to be strong enough to win gold.

14.06.2009 17:28

Verena SAILER (GER)
4x100m Relay Women

All in all it was a god competition for us. I was satisfied with the transition and was able to run up to the French girl really good. It just felt pretty nice.

14.06.2009 17:36

Tero PITKÄMÄKI (FIN)
Javelin Men

The competition went pretty good. I already felt that in my warm up were I could throw a 85. That´s why I felt confident to start into the competition. It is always a hard duell to compete against Thorkildsen and I am happy to win today in Berlin. I really like the stadion and the audiance is great. Until the World Championships I hope to stay healthy that I can go on with my training. If I do so, I think I could win the title in August.
